The Svettapolsen Norwegian Dancers

We extend a very warm welcome to the Svettapolsen dancers from Oslo who will dance during the afternoon.
Svettapolsen translates as 'Sweating Pols',  pols being one of their dance forms, so it looks like we will see an energetic exhibition.

The group was started fifteen years ago and has about 40 members, 35 of whom have travelled to Scotland. They have a genuine love of music and dance.  As well as 'pols', they dance polka and 'reinlander'. They are accompanied by Hardanger Fiddle and accordion.

The initiator of the group is a cousin of the Bruce family of Glentanar and it was on a visit to Glentanar that the idea of coming to dance at Aboyne Games was born.
Apart from the disco dancing which goes on at the Marquee dances on Friday or Saturday night, there has only ever been Highland Dancing at Aboyne Games.  The Svettapolsen Dancers will provide a colourful example of traditional dancing from another country.

SCOTTISH GAMES ASSOCIATION INTER AREA RELAY RACE

Heats are run in five areas of Scotland, which are Borders, Fife, Central Area West, Grampian and Highlands.<br>The competitors are 10-14 years of age identified by officials of the S.G.A. from schools selected in the various regions at Highland Games of those regions.

Aboyne Highland Games is the venue for Grampian 2007.

The winners of the heats have then to compete in the finals at Pitlochry Games, the last one of the Season.  The winning team will receive the S.G.A trophy and medals.
